Phases of different game mechanics that I have mild obsessions with. Then I try to play and procure as many of them as I can.
Previous Mechanics I have gotten all gooey over:
- Deck Building
- Cooperative
- Secret Roles
- Negotiation
- et cetera
Currently, it’s Dexterity Games. Tumblin’ Dice and PitchCar and the like. Also pledged to the Caveman Curling Kickstarter.
I need to find a new obsession soon. Dexterity games are spendy.
But they are also really fun and can generally be played with my four-year-old. Big, big bonus points.
I know what you mean, I’ve been fascinated by Auction/Bidding games lately.
Reverse side of prototype cards for a game I’m working on with my girlfriend.
Monsterpocalypse! My most recent purchase, it was on sale for about half off at my FLGS. Unfortunately it was missing a piece, one of the monster pieces even. Those are totally the main draw of the game! Very disappointing, but if I can get a replacement from Privateer all will be forgiven (this picture was taken for my replacement piece request).
My collection of board games
I’ve never even heard of Cargo Noir, but free is free. The real decision is whether to get Ticket to Ride or Memoir 44.
In this game the players enter an abandoned base in order to root out the parasitic entities within. The problem is that one of the players will become the host and its their job to convert the rest of the party. This game looks really awesome, I really dig The Thing-like theme especially. I also appreciate any game that comes packaged in a tin.
A duel between two players in a wild west setting. I really love westerns, especially games in that setting. The idea of a lawman in relentless pursuit of a gang of outlaws on the run is way too fun. Each side plays differently and has differing win conditions. Sounds like a good time to me.
Just like the first two games, my main interest here is the setting. A game set in the fashion industry is just too interesting to ignore for me. I’ve never really played many Euro games, but this might be the one to get me into them.
I used to collect Mage Knight figures a little bit when I was younger. Kinda disappointed they aren’t used for this (the only clix pieces in the game are cities). But despite that I’m very interested in how they are combining deck building with RPG elements.
Unfortunately I have no idea when any of these are coming out.
Best board game reviews ever.
The rumours… they’re all true. Say “Hallo” to our first ever Halloween Special! It’s a little shorter than we usually manage, but that’s only because we’re working so hard on Episode 6.
Happy Halloween, everybody.
An online version of the wargame Memoir `44 is now available on Steam for free.* I haven’t played the actual board game, but after trying this I added it to my list of future purchases.
*Only 2 scenarios are free, the rest cost “gold” which you can purchase for cash. They do supply you with 50 free gold so you can still play a few of the pay-to-play scenarios.
These are my current top 5 favorite games. I originally wanted to just post ones I felt were fairly timeless, or perhaps something I’m not likely to get tired of. For example when I first got it Quarriors would have been listed as my number 2, but I got sick of it quickly. I figure that is most likely not possible but as of now these are my favorites.
